A high-speed rail link connecting Morocco’s northern cities of Dangil and Genitra was officially opened on the same day, according to the Moroccan news agency Monday. This is the first high-speed rail line on the African continent.
Reported that King Mohammed VI of Morocco and visiting French President Mark Long attended the opening ceremony in Tangier that afternoon and took the first high-speed rail.
Reported that the total investment of the high-speed rail line is more than $2 billion, half of which comes from loans from France. The high-speed train on the line is made by the French Alstom Ltd.
According to data from Morocco’s National Railway Administration, the high-speed railway line is 200 kilometers long and the normal running speed of the train is 320 kilometers. The one-way journey between Dangil and Genitra takes only 47 minutes, which is much shorter than the original three hours and 15 minutes.
According to the Mo Tong news agency, Morocco plans to build a 1500 km high speed rail line across the country.
